Since no one has stepped up to the plate to take a swing at these skuas, I should start this by saying that some suggested a couple of years ago that the molt of these bird was not consistent with Great Skua, and that this individual's plumage lacked dthe reddish highlights typically of that species. In comparison with Bonxies that I have photographed in mid to late February, I have to say that the molt argument seems weak to me. Comments anyone?

A hefty bird, especially the bill and chest! Structure argues against South Polar. The speckling on the crown makes me lean towards Great Skua rather than Brown.
